Optimal serum levels, dietary intakes, and doses of these water-soluble nutrients are presented to increase the life expectancy in healthy years of people best. Whenever possible, a distinction is made about dosing and beneficial effects of water-soluble vitamins in health and disease, as dosing in ill and older people may differ (sometimes lower, sometimes higher doses, depending on the micronutrient). Caution is emitted for one of these nutrients as up to now no human life-extending effects have been found and one study suggested a possible adverse effect. For another, mixed findings show that high levels are associated with less longevity, more mortality. Otherwise, the great safety margin for water-soluble vitamins seems reassuring.
