  • Nutritional supplements to reduce the appetite: 5-HTP, chromium, amino acids (cysteine, L-carnitine, arginine, histidine, mixed amino acids, etc.)
  • Nutritional supplements to increase energy and improve sleep
  • Nutritional supplements to make the body firm:
    • Nutritional supplements that improve digestion, especially amino acid absorption (HCl; pancreatic enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics)
    • Amino acid supplements to increase muscle mass: essential amino acids, creatine
    • Amino acid and protein supplements to increase muscle mass and reduce fat mass (branched chain amino acids, carnitine, glutamine, whey, soy, egg powder)
    • Fatty acid supplements: to increase muscle mass and to reduce fat mass and weight

Abstract:

The nutritional therapies proposed here are efficient to lose weight and improve body composition.

Among the nutritional supplements that may help to reduce appetite are 5-HTP, chromium, and amino acids (cysteine, L-carnitine, arginine, histidine, mixed amino acids, etc.). Appropriate indications and efficient doses are presented in this presentation.

Among the nutritional supplements that may help to increase energy and improve sleep are melatonin, tryptophan, 5-HTP, and GABA.

Among the nutritional supplements that may help to make the body firm are those that improve digestion, especially amino acid absorption: hydrochloric acid, pancreatic enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics.

Additionally in this category are amino acid supplements that mainly increase muscle mass, such as essential amino acids and creatine.

Equally belonging to this category are several amino acid and protein supplements that can increase muscle mass as well as reduce fat mass, such as branched chain amino acids, carnitine, glutamine, whey, soy, egg powder, and others.

Finally, fatty acid supplements can also make the body firm by increasing muscle mass and reducing fat mass and weight, such as borage and evening primrose oils, conjugated linoleic acid, and fish oil.

Educational outcome:
To transmit knowledge on which nutritional supplements can reduce the appetite, reduce weight and fat mass, and/or increase muscle mass

Learning outcomes:

Physicians lean more about

  1. The nutrients that can help lose weight and improve body composition
  2. Doses, the right time to take the supplement, and the duration of intake of each nutritional supplement
  3. The scientific studies that support this information
